DIY: 7 Organic Homemade Beauty Recipes

As we start nourishing our body with the right kinds of foods, it’s equally as important to consider how we treat it from the outside. Many of the personal care products on the market contain harmful chemicals and toxins. Learning how to make easy chemical free face treatments can not only help you avoid exposure to these harmful toxins, but also can be great for the wallet in the long term.
Here are 7 of my favorite DIY face treatments that you can make at home:
1. Maple-Almond Lip Scrub
Ingredients:

Extra virgin coconut oil
Brown sugar
Maple syrup
Sweet almond essential oil

2. Peppermint-Rosemary Lip Scrub
Ingredients:

Extra virgin coconut oil
Brown sugar
Peppermint essential oil
Fresh rosemary, finely chopped

Directions for both lip scrubs: Combine coconut oil with brown sugar and mix well (1:1 ratio), making sure to not over-mix as this will dissolve the granules. Add essential oil (few drops) and other ingredients. Store scrubs in airtight containers and refrigerate for 2-3 weeks.
3. Sweet Orange Face Toner
Ingredients:

1/2 cup witch hazel
10 drops sweet orange essential oil

4. Refreshing Cucumber Toner
Ingredients:

1 medium cucumber, shredded
1 cup distilled water

Directions for both toners: Add ingredients to a clean jar, close with a tight-fitting lid. Shake to blend. Pour a small amount of toner onto a cotton ball and apply to the face, or spritz the face using a spray bottle.
5. Skin Brightening Turmeric Face Mask
Ingredients:

1/4 tsp turmeric powder*
1/2 avocado
5 drops sweet almond essential oil

Directions: Mash all ingredients with a fork and apply to face for 10-15 minutes. *Note: Turmeric has a tendency to stain everything it comes in contact with. This mask works best for darker complexions, as it can stain very fair skin yellow.
6. Healing Dry Skin Aloe Vera Mask
Ingredients:

1/2 cup aloe vera plant (pulp)
1/2 cup oats
1/2 avocado
5 drops essential peppermint oil

Directions: Mash all ingredients with a fork, and apply to face for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, and pat dry with a towel.
7. Dark Circle Banishing Treatment
Ingredients:

Fresh mint leaves
1 cup distilled water

Directions: Chop and crush a spring of mint leaves. Apply the mashed leaves to dark eye circles for 15-20 minutes. Rinse.
